Day 9 - Shap to Kendal

A frosty start meant long sleeves for all of us for the first time on this walk. Clear blue skies boded well for the day ahead.

From the off we were joined by a number of people who intended to walk the whole way with us. During the day many people came to see us, including several suicide-bereaved families who wanted to share their stories with us. The tales were all different but the devastating effect of loved ones taking their own lives were the same.

Suicide is the biggest killer of young people in the UK – we need to smash the stigma and get people throughout society talking about it.

Shortly after lunch we were joined by David, Sean and Michael of the Young’uns; they have written a song inspired by our last walk – “3 Dads Walking On”. They sang it as we walked towards Bannisdale, it’s beautiful and it made us all cry. They had a crew in tow to video this and they also captured it on an iPhone....when we get that video, we will put it up.

Today was a classic day of 3 Dads Walking – lots of laughter, plenty of tears and many open and honest conversations with others touched by suicide. Very powerful stuff.

Waiting for the Young’uns…

….and here they are!
