3 Dads Walking 2024 Day 9 - Gosforth to Durham Cathedral

What a day! Another wonderful welcome. The people of Newcastle and Gateshead came out in force to encourage us along...including Helen-Ann, the Bishop of Newcastle.

We visited the newly opened PAPYRUS office on the Quayside where we met loads of supporters of the charity. After a swift stop we cross the Millennium bridge, heading south towards the Angel of The North where we were met by Liz Twist MP & young people from Whickham School. The school should be very proud of their pupils, they spoke eloquently about the challenges they faced and the ways they were encouraged to handled them.

We ‘enjoyed’ the worst weather of our walk at the Angel – rain, sleet, hailstones and wind. It was absolutely horrible however our supporters stuck with us and followed us south over the A1.

The increasingly rural route dropped to the Wear which we followed upstream to Durham. Walking onto the green in front of the cathedral we were met by Alison & Adam from the BBC along with the Young’uns and a school choir for Our Lady & St Bedes School Stockton. Our arrival was broadcast live as the choir sang 3 Dads Walking On...very emotional.

After the broadcast we had a chance to speak to the choir, The Young’uns and the many supporters who had followed us up to the cathedral.

What a day!
