3 Dads Walking 2024 Day 22 - Sutton Bridge to Castle Rising
7.30am back at Sutton Bridge...and we had people waiting for us. Our small group crossed the bridge and headed back up the east side of the River Nene (almost retracing the 3 miles we walked inland the night before).
The lighthouse at end of the channel we walked by the lighthouse that had belonged to Sir Peter Scott, one of the founders of the World Wide Fund for Nature. For there we were on the peter Scott Walk to Kings Lynn. The sea defence was as lovely to walk on as the day before – flat and easy underfoot. Mike made friends with a bullock…..
We made good time to the Lincolnshire/Norfolk border where the sun came out! Shortly after crossing into Norfolk we were intercepted by TV crews from BBC Look East and ITV Anglia, we are very grateful that the media continue to get behind what we are doing and help us spread our message of hope. Here’s the Look East report from today:
Shortly after leaving the media we were met by the Duke and Duchess of Norfolk; as well as welcoming into Norfolk they walked with us the rest of the day, chatting amiably to the many supporters who walked with us.
In Kings Lynn we were invited into the Town Hall by Mayor Margaret Wilkinson; going indoors gave a period of relief from the increasingly hot sun. We enjoyed tea, squash and biscuits whilst talking to the Mayor and other members of the civic team.
The final push took us northeast out of town past the Fire Station where the entire crew came out (with their appliances!) to say hello. More great support from the fire and rescue services.
Our finish point of the day was the Black Horse pub at Castle Rising, our supporters filled the beer garden and we enjoyed a well-earned pint of shandy.
