3 Dads Walking 2024 Day 12 - Ellingstring to Thruscross Reservoir

A second tough day after the 25-miler yesterday. We covered over 22 miles and climbed over 3000 feet most of it in the rain.

We spent much of the day walking on the Six Dales Trail, a route that took us from dale to dale...meaning a series of climbs and descents. We had full waterproofs on from the moment we left Ellingstring – it was a very unpleasant morning.

Taking a break…..

We didn’t come across anyone until the top of our 3rd climb of the day; as we reached our high point on Pott Moor Laura, Alan and Alison appeared out of the rain. They kept us company and kept our spirits up all the way to Pateley Bridge.

Later in the day as we reached the Nidderdale Valley a number of people were waiting for us. At the centre of the group another suicide-bereaved day who is struggling to make sense of the shattered world around him; he came along to talk with us to get some understanding how we managed to carry on.

After Pateley Bridge our group diminished as we climbed up and over to Nidderdale. It had stopped raining by them and the sun made a brief appearance. The sight of Lucy & Chris, our hosts for the evening, was a very welcome sight indeed.
